Birds of the Galapagos

Part 1 of 6

Pelican

Pelicans are, unaccountably, my favorite seabird. I take every opportunity to take their picture, even if I already have nice pelican photos in my photo collection. The kids say things like “Oh, of course Dad is taking a picture of the Pelican!”

When we in the Galapagos, we saw them everywhere. You could find them on lonely rocks or on perched on the bow of a boat. Since they are large birds with pretty small personal bubbles, you can get pretty close to them for the best photos.

Since they are my favorite, I’m starting the (staggered) series on the birds of the Galapagos with the Pelicans. There will be many other kinds of birds in the weeks to come: the Galapagos is full of birds!

“A wonderful bird is a pelican, / His bill will hold more than his belican.
