In abortion news, it turns out that if you ban abortion, the number of abortions will go down, but births will not go up proportionally. Only a (sometimes tiny) minority of births are due to foregone abortions. This is an astonishing finding!
A huge percentage of abortions are driven entirely by narcissism: people only got abortions because it was the most convenient way to ‘prevent’ a pregnancy. Now that abortion has been banned in many places, the vast majority of those same people are simply choosing not to get pregnant.
For years abortion rights activists have been lying when they said that people cannot and should not be held accountable for choosing to have a baby. Yet, almost instantly, men and women discovered personal discretion in the face of abortion bans. These same activists predicted huge numbers of unwanted births, but instead people made other choices. Men and women can, in fact, exercise personal agency in determining whether or not to have a baby. Who would have thought?
It has always been true that if you don’t want a baby, you must control your impulses. This is true bodily autonomy. “My Body, My Choice?” You got it now, and you can see how well it is working out.
This also puts the lie to the abortion activists’ fake causality of the “forced birth.” It turns out that if you ban abortion, the majority of people quickly figure out the real causation of birth and adjust their behaviors accordingly. They said it couldn’t happen, but it looks like it did anyway: banning abortion does the impossible!
Ever since Roe vs Wade was struck down, Republicans have lost ground to Democrats in elections. Many believe that pushing for abortion bans has a significant political cost. This is why I am not an activist: abortion bans are a fundamentally good social policy but bad politics. People who intentionally choose bad outcomes in order to maintain political power are arguably worse than those who choose bad outcomes due to their own self-deceptive biases.
